Apple has lost their case against the United States Department of Justice. The DoJ sued Apple last year, claiming that the Cupertino company had colluded with publishers to set a minimum price for both retail and the iBookstore.
All of this was done due to Amazon’s massive lead in e-books: to combat the low prices of Kindle e-books, Apple and the publishers set a price for books in theiBookstore and in retail, to try to pressure Amazon in to raising their own prices.
Apple will now have to pay damages, although we don’t yet know exactly how much that entails.
