We were all pretty sure it was coming and, sadly, we all pretty much knew exactly what the device would be by now. Google has announced its new Nexus 7, the successor to last year’s well-regarded model, shipping in an overall package that’s 2 mm thinner and 50g lighter. On top of the weight loss, the new Nexus 7 has been graced with a higher resolution, 1920 x 1200 screen, which is a major improvement over the previous 1280 x 800 display.
On the inside you’ll find brand new hardware as well, with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 8064, Adreno 320 graphics, and a solid 2 GB of RAM. The new device also features dual stereo speakers, a 5 MP rear-facing camera, and the latest version of Android – 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Today also marks the first day Google has offered an unlocked LTE tablet in the United States, with the Nexus 7 packing hardware that finally supports the latest wireless communication standards. The device is compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon at the current time. Lastly, battery life is claimed to be at around 10 hours of web browsing, a marked improvement over last year’s model. The WiFi-only version in 16GB will set you back $230, while the 32GB model is at $270. The 32GB LTE model will ring in at $349.
