If This Then That Lands on the iOS App Store

IFTTT–If This Then That–is a web service which lets its users create “recipes” for jobs which would otherwise be tedious. For example, the IFTTT service can detect when you add a file to your public dropbox folder, and copy it over to Google Drive. The service’s mantra is “put the internet to work for you.”

Soon the phone will be just as valuable in your pocket as it is in your hand. Idle phones move data, respond to new locations, and receive notifications — this is only the beginning.

With the app comes three new channels–what you use to create recipes–for iPhone, including Contacts, Photos, and Reminders. IFTTT says there are more to come. Sadly, many of these new channels won’t be practical until the release of iOS 7 and true app backgrounding. In the meantime, use IFTTT to create a recipe–like uploading screenshots to Flickr–that will run immediately upon opening the app.

The app is completely free and available right now on the App Store.
