This is the Moto X. The device has been leaked and rumored for some time now, but was finally officially announced by Motorola earlier today. Read on for the device rundown.The phone is the first to have its software and hardware under full control of Google, and sports a 4.7-inch AMOLED display, Touchless Control via Google Now, a variety of customization options, and unique Samsung-esque camera controls. Unlike other Android phones released by third party vendors, this phone will not ship with a skinned version of Android – you’ll likely be getting the full experience or something close to it. Carriers have the option to pre-install apps as they wish, but if you truly need a virgin phone, there will also be a Google Play version available. As for hardware specs, the phone sports a speedy Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 1.7Ghz dual-core Krait CPU and a quad-core Adreno 320 GPU. The smartphone comes with a 10-megapixel camera (that is rumored to be stellar), 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of on-board flash storage, and a 2,200mAh battery claiming tobring up to 24 hours in Motorola wonder.
As demonstrated in the video below, the phone is designed to always be listening for your voice commands. This reminds me of “OK Glass” just a bit. To preserve battery life, the phone has a separate, dedicated processor for listening for these commands while preserving battery life.
The phone also features a feature reminding me of one of the Galaxy S4 gimmicks. It’s called “Quick Draw” and allows you to take a photo with an awkward flick of the wrist. Who comes up with this stuff?
There was, however, an announcement made today that frustrated many hopeful Moto X owners: For now, the device’s customization options are going to be an AT&T exclusive. If you purchase through AT&T, you get the option of choosing a black or white faceplate with sixteen different backside color options.
